The two women accused of pulling off a promotional stunt at the World Cup in Johannesburg will be given legal representation by the Dutch brewer implicated in the saga.
The two ladies, who were part of a large group of women wearing revealing orange dresses during the Netherlands’ victory over Denmark last Monday.
The dresses were allegedly part of a suspected “ambush marketing” ploy launched by brewer Bavaria at Soccer City with the women having since been remanded on bail.
"Unfortunately Bavaria has been drawn into the furore surrounding the arrest of the two ladies who were wearing an orange dress also worn by thousands of Dutch ladies and football supporters," the brewer said in a statement late on Wednesday.
"There is no way FIFA can hold these ladies responsible for their attendance at the match in their Dutch dress in Soccer City and Bavaria is currently doing everything in their power to assist the arrested Dutch ladies," Bavaria said, referring to World Cup organising federation FIFA.
"Bavaria will ask FIFA to immediately stop intimidating Dutch dressed female supporters," the Dutch brewer said.
This is not the first time Bavaria has clashed with FIFA with Dutch fans forced to watch their side in just their underpants after being told to remove their orange lederhosen at the 2006 World Cup.
