The beleaguered French football team is facing a backlash from sponsors over the Nicolas Anelka World Cup scandal.
The Chelsea striker was sent home from the tournament after clashing with manager Raymond Domenech in the dressing room at half-time in France’s 2-0 defeat by Mexico last week.
That prompted the squad to boycott training on Sunday (June 20) in support of Anelka, leading to an angry response from the French Football Federation.
Now Credit Agricole has cancelled a television campaign with the team that was not supposed to end until June 25.
A spokeswoman for the bank said on Monday (June 21): "We are suspending our advertising campaign on insurance products that features the French team.”
Meanwhile, fast-food company Quick decided over the weekend to stop using an advertising film featuring Anelka.
The team, which is on the verge of being eliminated from the tournament, returned to training on Monday to prepare for its final Group A match against South Africa.
Players wore jerseys without any sponsor at training, according to Reuters.
Other main sponsors for the French national team include retailer Carrefour and Gaz de France-Suez.
