The International Rugby Board (IRB) has warned players and coaches seeking positions abroad about an alleged scam that has been traced to Nigeria.
The scam involves a request to send money to a bank account in return for visas and playing licences at rugby clubs or academies which do not exist or are being misrepresented.
Police in various countries have been alerted.
An IRB statement said: “The IRB would urge all players and coaches to verify clubs and/or academies prior to applying for positions and to exercise caution if requested to transfer money in such circumstances.”
