McCain Foods, a principal partner of UK Athletics, has launched a £1m consumer campaign to help mothers get their children active this summer.
The campaign, which kicked off this week, is fronted by actress Sheree Murphy and sees McCain give away 100 packs of Garden Games every day for eight weeks via a dedicated website, www.mccaingardengames.co.uk.
The games are based on the basic elements of athletics – run, jump and throw – and feature a stopwatch and four running cones, four jumping sacks and two ‘mega-howlers’ to throw at a target, as well as different game ideas for using these in the garden or local park. The Garden Games website features videos and instructions with downloadable certificates.
McCain has signed mum-of-three Murphy to front the campaign and is also working with existing McCain UK athletics ambassador Sally Gunnell, who will be providing athletics tips on the website to help mums get the most out of the Garden Games.
A McCain spokesman said: “Our partnership with UK Athletics is extremely important and we are committed to helping get youngsters active.
“As a busy mum of three, Sheree Murphy understands the challenges mums face when it comes to getting children off the sofa and outside. She’s the perfect ambassador for the Garden Games, which are designed to help mums get their kids active together and, as they are based on run, jump and throw, they are an ideal introduction to athletics.”
