The National Basketball Association has fined Cleveland Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert $100,000 after he described LeBron James' decision to move to the Miami Heat as “cowardly” behaviour.
Gilbert made the comments in a July 8 letter to the team's supporters shortly after the two-time reigning NBA Most Valuable Player said he would leave Cleveland to play with fellow All Stars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.
The letter said that the team's supporters "simply don't deserve this kind of cowardly betrayal” and called James’ decision a "shameful display of selfishness”.
James delivered his announcement in a special one-hour show broadcast live on ESPN last week.
