Rome's bid for the 2020 Olympics will not affect its plans to stage a Formula 1 Grand Prix by 2013, according to the city’s Mayor.
Gianni Alemanno said: "I don't see any need to get the Olympics mixed up with the GP.
"We've already got an OK for the race at an international level. It would be stupid to give up.”
F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone recently said Rome should get a GP in 2013 but Alemanno is hoping to beat that deadline by a year.
