Ski half-pipe and snowboard slopestyle could make their debuts as Winter Olympic sports at the 2014 Sochi Games.
The International Ski Federation (FIS) has requested the International Olympic Committee (IOC) include the sports, as well as an alpine skiing team event.
FIS also asked the IOC for the second time to add women's ski jumping after the event was controversially omitted from this year's Games in Vancouver.
The IOC's executive board is set to make its decision by the end of 2010.
FIS said that freestyle half-pipe and slopestyle, where riders head down a course which includes rails, kickers and jumps, is "very youth-driven and will appeal to future generations".
The IOC has already recognised this and included both events in the inaugural Winter Youth Olympic Games , which are being held in Innsbruck, Austria, in 2012.
