Toshiba has been announced as the latest official sponsor of next year’s Rugby World Cup in New Zealand.
The electronics giant will supply a host of products and services for Rugby World Cup Limited (RWCL), the operator of the International Rugby Board (IRB) event, as part of the deal.
Toshiba will provide televisions, notebook PCs and digital multi-function services for the duration of the event, which is scheduled to run from September 9 to October 23. The deal is thought to be worth around $5m.
Toshiba, which also sponsored the 2007 competition in France, will receive stadium signage, corporate advertisements and banner ads on the official website, www.rugbyworldcup.com.
“The reappointment of a world leader in the electronics field further underlines the enormous attraction and prestige of the tournament in the global sporting calendar,” said RWCL and IRB chairman Bernard Lapasset.
“We look forward to working with Toshiba to further the promotion of the game as the global rugby community looks ahead to Rugby World Cup 2011 in New Zealand and a tournament that looks set to write another memorable chapter in the Rugby World Cup success story.”
