The Glazer family has come under renewed pressure to surrender control of Manchester United after it emerged that season tickets were selling badly for the first time in the club’s recent history.

Despite a price freeze and a marketing campaign, 4,000 tickets have been put on general sale – a move that was previously unheard of at Old Trafford, where fans have waited 10 years for a ticket.

The club insists its sales are fine for a recession, but Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham have all sold out, while Manchester City has just a few tickets left, reports the Daily Mail.

It has been claimed as a victory for the Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST) green and gold campaign, which wants the owners to drop their £1.5bn asking price so the Red Knights consortium can take over.

MUST chief executive Duncan Drasdo said: “This is great news for fans in terms of the balance of power shifting back towards them.”
