Formula 1 sponsor LG says it is confident the Korean Grand Prix will go ahead as planned in October despite doubts continuing over the progress of the circuit.
Organisers claimed last week that FIA race director Charlie Whiting was happy with the work being carried out at the track after a recent site visit, but fresh rumours emerged about the event over the weekend at the German Grand Prix.
However, Dermot Boden, executive vice-president and chief marketing officer at LG – which is based in South Korea – insisted everything was being done to make sure the race goes ahead.
"I live in Korea – I've been living there for two-and-a-half years – and this race is going to occur," he said.
"The Koreans are passionate, driven and committed. They are very focused on delivering on their Key Performance Indicators and I want to be clear – we will have a race in Korea. I strongly believe that and I don't have any reason to doubt that.
"The Koreans will want to deliver not just a race but an outstanding race – and I think they will do that."
