Japan's new soccer chief Junji Ogura will head the country's bid to host the 2022 World Cup, the Japan Football Association (JFA) announced on Monday (July 26).
Ogura was named the JFA's new president at the weekend after his predecessor Motoaki Inukai stepped down for health reasons.
The JFA said Fifa executive committee member Ogura, 71, will take charge of Japan's bidding process for the 2022 World Cup.
"At my age, I will be looking to retire in two years," the former JFA vice-president said. "I'm surprised the job has suddenly come along but I was asked to step in."
