Barcelona’s debt stands at 442m Euros after the club made a loss of more than 77m Euros last season, a new audit has revealed.
The previous board, led by Joan Laporta, had announced the club was 11m Euros in the black at the end of June.
But the latest audit, conducted by Deloitte on behalf of new president Sandro Rosell, showed operating income of 408.9m Euros and costs of 477.9m compared with previous figures published under Laporta of 445.5m income and 429m costs.
Javier Faus, a Barcelona vice-president, told a news conference the club's net debt had swelled to 442m Euros from 329m at the end of the 2008/09 season.
"There is a structural problem," Faus said. "The sporting excellence of the past few years has not been reflected in excellence in economic management."
After Laporta's exit at the end of June, Barcelona admitted cashflow problems and was forced to seek a 150m-Euro bank loan to help pay players’ wages.
