Munich’s bid to host the 2018 Winter Olympics has been boosted after the city topped a ‘quality of life’ poll for the second time.
Munich was named the most "liveable" city in the world, according to a survey by Monocle magazine, thanks in part to its ‘Laptops and Lederhosen’ culture.
Munich 2018 chief executive Willy Bogner said: "We are delighted with the results of Monocle's survey because they reinforce one of the key aspects of our bid. Munich and Bavaria would offer an incomparable venue for the 2018 Winter Games.
“On the one hand, we have our spectacular natural treasures in the Alps – on the other hand we have this bustling, cosmopolitan, sports-mad city with a thriving arts scene, superb inner-city transport, and some of the most welcoming people on earth.
"Our concept of ‘The Friendly Games’ aims to make the most of our resources and guarantee athletes, the Olympic family and spectators a very special experience.”
