The bidding process for the World Tenpin Bowling Association’s (WTBA) World Championships in 2013 has so far attracted interest from more than 15 countries across five continents, it has been announced.
The WTBA, in conjunction with TSE Consulting, has taken steps to modernise the World Championship concept to make it more attractive for potential hosts, athletes and spectators.
A much larger proportion of member countries are now able to host the event after a decision was taken to reduce the the minimum lane requirement for World Championship venues.
WTBA president Kevin Dornberger said: “We are thrilled to see that our efforts to continually raise the standards of our World Championships while making it accessible to our worldwide membership have generated such an enthusiastic response. This is vital for bowling’s continual development as a global sport and drive towards Olympic inclusion.”
The winning country will be chosen in December, while the submission deadline for bids is October 1.
