The New York Giants and Jets have admitted that their $1.7bn New Meadowlands Stadium will not have a naming rights sponsor by the start of the National Football League season.
A source close to the stadium operating arm owned jointly by the Giants and Jets told the New York Post that "nothing is imminent at all" in terms of a much-needed title sponsor.
Mark Lamping, chief executive of the New Meadowlands Stadium Corp, added through a spokesman that the teams have been unable to make progress in negotiations with several companies despite recently landing the 2014 Super Bowl.
A lucrative naming rights deal is vital for the Giants and Jets as they each have almost $900m in stadium construction costs to pay off.
"There's lots of discussion going on, but we're not at a point where we're interested in talking about it," Lamping said.
