Rugby Football Union (RFU) chairman Martyn Thomas has been handed a key role in England's hosting of the 2015 World Cup.
Thomas, who is due to stand down from the RFU next summer, has been appointed chairman of the board of directors of England Rugby 2015 Limited, the company formed after the RFU won the rights to host the tournament in 2009.
Thomas, who was elected chairman of the RFU management board in April 2005, will take up his position in 2011.
The RFU hopes to recruit a chief executive for the new company, which is expected to have a staff of about 65, before the autumn.
The board of directors will include John Steele, the new RFU chief executive, and a representative of the Government, which is underwriting £25m of the £80m host fee that the RFU must pay the International Rugby Board
