The All England Club says it is confident it will be able to resurface its grass courts in the short period between the Wimbledon Championships of 2012 and the London Olympics.
A trial was conducted on Wimbledon's Centre Court by the club's head groundsman Eddie Seaward. He sowed a fresh batch of grass on July 5, the day after this year's Wimbledon finished, and reported a successful result by the 19th.
"Within two weeks Centre Court was ready to play again," Seaward said. "We showed it to Clare Wood [the competition manager for tennis at the Olympics] and she was happy with the result."
