The head of the Australian Olympic Committee John Coates has warned India that it must prepare better than it has for the Commonwealth Games if it is to make a bid to host the Olympics.
The Delhi 2010 Games is being seen by many as a stepping stone towards staging the Olympics, although it was reported earlier this month that the corruption allegations that have soured the build up to the October event may have “destroyed” an Olympic bid before one had even been launched.
However, Coates believes the infrastructure delays and security concerns are more of an issue.
"In the Olympic world, we would certainly prefer that venues are all finished one year before, that you're able to have test events to test the venues, to test the organisation,” he said.
"We did have some similar experience with Athens and I'm sure the Games will happen, but certainly I wouldn't like to be involved in something with construction happening so close to the event.”
