Bernie Ecclestone has warned organisers of the Brazilian Grand Prix that they must make “significant improvements” to the famous Interlagos circuit to guarantee the race’s future.
Brazil has hosted an F1 race every year since 1972 and has produced some of the world’s best drivers, including the late Ayrton Senna.
On 28 of those 38 occasions, the race has been held at Interlagos but the circuit’s facilities are regularly criticised as sub-standard when compared to the ultra-modern new tracks in places such as Shanghai, Singapore and Abu Dhabi.
Ecclestone said: “Long ago, in 1972, I believed in Brazil and brought F1 here but I can no longer be questioned by the teams about the worst circuit in the championship. The future depends on significant improvements.”
