The Football Association will continue to have overall responsibility for the national team after the role of Club England was discussed at a board meeting at the end of last week.

Club England was set up by former FA chief executive Ian Watmore to be responsible for all issues regarding the country’s national teams.

The FA's former director of communications Adrian Bevington was appointed managing director, with Sir Dave Richards becoming chairman after Lord Triesman resigned his position at the governing body in May.

But while managers will report initially to the board of Club England, which oversees all operational issues, it has been made clear the FA board continues to hold ultimate responsibility for major decisions.

Meanwhile, the FA has formalised the process for the search for a new permanent chairman to replace Triesman.

At an emergency general meeting in October, it will be recommended that while the position will still be independent, the need for candidates to be independent of any involvement in football for 12 months before taking the post is set to be removed.

The process of selecting an executive search organisation has already started and will be ready to implement immediately after the EGM, with a new chairman expected to be in place by the start of next year.
