Munich's campaign to host the 2018 Winter Olympics has been hit by the news that there will be no government money to help finance the bid.
Interior minister Thomas de Maiziere told German Press Agency DPA that government support for the budget had never been foreseen.
Willy Bogner, head of Munich's bid, had called for public funds to help meet a budget that has risen to $41.8m.
