Just 50,000 tickets have so far been sold for the Delhi Commonwealth Games, which gets underway in just over a month.
Despite there being a total of 2.3 million tickets available, organisers are confident sales will pick up.
“The tendency in India is to buy tickets closer to the event,” said Sanjeev Mittal, who heads the ticketing division. “There have also been a lot of enquiries from abroad as well as from corporate sponsors. We are aiming to sell a total of 1.7 million tickets.”
Tickets have only been for sale online so far and sales are expected to pick up rapidly once they are available over the counter and at call centres.
