Domestic support strong for Budapest Olympic bid 02/09/2010

More than two-thirds of Hungarians want Budapest to bid for the 2020 Summer Olympics, according to a new report.
The survey by Szonda Ipsos showed that 70 per cent of people surveyed wanted the city to bid to stage the event, while 75 per cent said that hosting the Games would be an historic achievement. More than half of respondents believed that hosting the Olympics would help foster national unity.
Asked if they would be prepared to pay a tax to support the bid, 53 per cent of people said yes, 38 per cent said no and nine per cent were unsure or did not say.
