Real Madrid has reported an almost 50 per cent jump in ticket revenue thanks to an increase in foreign visitors to its famous Bernabeu stadium.
The Spanish club made 27m euros in ticket revenue for the year to June 30 – a 48 per cent increase on the previous 12 months, according to its annual report.
Season-ticket holders based in Spain handed back more than 100,000 match tickets for resale over the period, the report said, while sales to visitors from the UK and US climbed.
Spain is emerging from its worst economic slump in 60 years with an unemployment rate of 20 per cent.
Real sold 15,500 match tickets abroad last season, a 29 per cent increase, the report added.
“More tickets are available to foreigners because of the economic crisis,” Esteve Calzada, chief executive of Spanish marketing agency Prime Time Sports, told Bloomberg.
