London 2012 organisers have withdrawn a job offer to former Olympic champion Sevdalin Marinov.
The Bulgarian had been offered the role of technical operations manager for weightlifting despite testing positive for steroids in 1994.
But a 2012 statement said: "When the offer came to the attention of [organising committee] LOCOG's senior management, we decided that this was not an appropriate appointment."
Marinov was due to start his new job on September 20.
After winning gold at the Seoul Olympics in 1988, Marinov migrated to Australia and enjoyed success in his adopted country.
But in 1994 he tested positive for steroids and was banned from competition for two years.
He was coaching Australia's junior team in 2003 when a drugs raid at his home discovered almost 15kg of the steroid stanozolol belonging to his housemate Keith Murphy.
Marinov, who was out of the country at the time, successfully overturned the life ban imposed by the International Weightlifting Federation, arguing he had no knowledge of Murphy's drug activities.
The LOCOG statement added: "We have today withdrawn the offer of employment to Mr Marinov, and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
