USA Track and Field officials have revealed that the organisation’s new chief executive must have an athletics background.
Previous boss Doug Logan was fired earlier this month after two turbulent years in charge. Logan was a former Major League Soccer commissioner with no track and field management experience.
"It should be someone who is either in or has had a long history of dealing with the sport," Steve Miller, chairman of the search committee seeking a replacement for Logan, told Reuters.
"It does not have to be a contemporary sports person. It can be an ex-athlete who is now a business person or a person who was a coach who is now a business person," added the former Nike executive who is chief executive of the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education and Agassi Graf Holdings.
