British diplomatic sources confirmed that Prince Charles’s role in the Opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in Delhi this Sunday is arranged.

According to the local media the prince will read a statement from the Queen and then the Indian President Pratibha Patil will announce the start of the competition. Thus the previous concerns over the common work of Charles and Patil were dispelled.

This year the busy program of the Queen will prevent her traditional role as head of the Commonwealth games and she will not be able to attend the event. Later on unnamed government body was quoted to announce than in protocol terms the President Patil is the one to give the official start of the event but a spokeswoman for Clarence House, Prince Charles's official residence, cleared up the doubts and confirmed that: “Both the Prince of Wales and the president of India will have prominent role in the opening ceremony in Delhi”.

Another diplomatic misunderstanding was provoked after the Commonwealth Games Federation chief executive Mike Hooper said that his organization should not take the blame for the set-backs in the preparation of the event. CGF president Mike Fennell denied the statements to be criticism toward India and explained that his colleague had meant that “the responsibility for delivering and operating the Games lies with authorities in India, as per the host city contract”.

However, problems exist after Lloyd's of London has refused to insure against cancellation or disruption to the Games because of the lack of information about infrastructure and security. Organizational delays were the reason for the later departure of several teams to India. They have expressed concerns over the state of the athletes' village, hosting them in Delhi.
