Texas Rangers bag $3 billion TV deal 28/09/2010 |

After securing the A.L. West division title for the first time since 1999 in the weekend, Texas Rangers announced a 20-year extension contract with Fox Sports Southwest, which will guarantee the baseball club $3 billion.
The contract means $150m a year. It was signed in August after the club was sold to Chuck Greenberg and Nolan Ryan's group. Beforehand Rangers were struggling with financial problems under the governance of Tom Hicks, who owns also 50 % of the English football club Liverpool.
The lucrative TV-rights deal will boost the transfer policy of Texas Rangers and it’s the highest TV package for a team, which doesn’t have its own channel.
In comparison, the Dodgers make $45m a year from their deal with Fox Sports. No further details of the contract were announced as club’s bosses want to keep anonymity of the conditions.
