The US Olympic Committee decided to withdraw from the competition for hosting the 2020 Summer Games. USOC chief executive officer Scott Blackmun explained it with the desire to recover after Chicago’s bid for 2016 Olympics had been denied. Nevertheless the American city considers putting forward Denver’s candidature for the 2022 Winter Games.
The International Olympic committee will announce the 2022 host in 2015. The chances have increased in comparison to the last year after the USOC has given £11,3m to the International governing body and thus has arranged their argument over the American contribution to the Games costs.
Before bidding for hosting the 2022 winter Olympics, USOC should find a new revenue-sharing structure. Currently 12,75% of American TV rights fees and 20 % of global market profits, which equals to £475m from 2005 to 2012, go to USOC. In 2020 new formula will take effect.
