Alexander Stadium in Birmingham will be redeveloped according to a £12.25 million plan, announced the City Council. As the Cabinet Member for Leisure, Sport and Culture Martin Mullaney explained, the loan for the redevelopment will be paid out of the rent of new office space for up to 250 people.
The city council revealed talks with UK Athletics and other sporting bodies with the hope to make the Stadium main UK Athletic base. No administration office has yet confirmed relocation there, but there is Memorandum of Understanding with UK Athletics for the change of their headquarters to Birmingham.
The work should be completed before London 2012 when Birmingham is due to host training camps for the US and the Jamaican teams.
"This exciting project will further enhance Birmingham’s deserved reputation as Britain’s sporting city, bringing jobs to the city and enhancing our facilities," said Mike Whitby, the Leader of Birmingham City Council.
