The head of press operations for the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games Manish Kumar was dismissed because of problems with the distribution of media accreditation passes. Kumar is also a deputy director general of the Organizing Committee and was appointed by chairman Suresh Kalmadi.
Kumar was sacked because of charges of obstructing the Press information Bureau’s work of issuing accreditation passes and press kits to journalists, which resulted in heavy delays. He was given another job and now is in charge of environment. Manjushree Roy became head of the press operations after being transferred around the Organizing Committee five times in the past year.
Seven core members of the team quit their posts in protest at Kumar’s departure, leaving operations at the Main Press Centre behind schedule. The row led to chaos in the department and some journalists’ accreditations have been delayed and media kits will not be distributed until Friday.
