The singles champions at next year’s Australian Open will each earn a record AUS$2.2m in prize money.
Tennis Australia announced today (October 5) that it has increased the total prize fund at the season-opening Grand Slam to $25m – up from $24.1m at this year’s tournament.
Roger Federer and Serena Williams each banked $2.1m for winning the singles titles in Melbourne nine months ago, while Rafael Nadal and Kim Clijsters each earned US$1.7m for their US Open victories last month.
