London 2012 chairman Lord Coe says he is “thrilled” by the public’s response to his call for volunteers for the Olympic and Paralympics Games.
Coe revealed more than 100,000 people have already applied to be a London 2012 ‘Games Maker’.
Applications have been received from right across the UK and from all communities, including thousands from disabled people.
Applications will be open until midnight on October 27, with London looking for up to 70,000 volunteers.
Coe said: "We are thrilled with the response so far from people and would like to thank everyone who has already filled in their application form and pledged to lend their time to the greatest show on earth.
"The London 2012 Games simply could not happen without volunteers.
"Whenever I have spoken to previous volunteers, they’ve all said what a fantastic experience it was.”
