Nike is in discussions with the National Football League (NFL) about replacing Adidas-owned Reebok as the league’s official supplier of uniforms and sideline apparel.
A new Nike deal would begin following the conclusion of Reebok's current apparel agreement with the NFL, according to reports in the United States. It would make Nike the official apparel supplier to the league for the first time since 2001.
Nike confirmed the talks, saying: "We are involved with the NFL negotiations but cannot comment on ongoing discussions."
Adidas chief executive Herbert Hainer had already told CNBC: “We decided how much we were willing to pay. If somebody bids higher than us then we’ll accept that. If we lose the NFL, it won’t make or break our company.”
