Boxing promoter Frank Warren is to help launch a bid to host the hockey World Cup at the Olympic Park in London in 2014.
Warren – who has represented many of Britain's top fighters, including Amir Khan and Joe Calzaghe – will announce his plans at a special conference to be held next Tuesday (October 19) at Forman's Fish Island, which overlooks the Olympic Stadium.
Officials behind the bid, which also includes the England Hockey Board (EHB), VisitLondon and UK Sport, claim that it will be the first major international legacy event to be held at the Park.
Warren will be joined by London mayor Boris Johnson and EHB chief executive Sally Munday at the event where they will outline plans to host the men and women's World Cups.
Warren told Inside the Games that he was approached by the EBH and that he is "helping out" financially and will promote it just as he would a boxing tournament.
"I'm in the promotional business – not just boxing now," he said.
If successful, it will be the first time that the men's World Cup has been held in Britain since 1986, when it was hosted in Willesden, North London.
Britain has never hosted the women's event.
