First 3D sports broadcast for Scandinavia
 22/10/2010

IEC in Sports and Panasonic, the Japanese consumer electronics giant and an official sponsor of the If Stockholm Open tennis tournament, have teamed up to produce the first-ever 3D sports broadcast in Scandinavia.

The 3D offer consists of live production and distribution of Thursday (October 21) to Sunday’s (October 24) matches at the ATP World Tour 250 event – in total 12 games.

IEC in Sports is offering broadcasters around the world the opportunity to access and relay the 3D action from the event currently taking place at the Royal Tennis Hall in Stockholm.

In addition, a 3D viewing gallery has been installed at the event for onsite fans, and 3D coverage is also offered at selected television retail outlets in the Nordic region.

Jonas Persson, chief executive of IEC in Sports, said: “We are delighted to be in partnership with such a prestigious world leader in the technology industry and to be able to provide tennis fans in Scandinavia and around the world with a unique opportunity to experience the future of broadcasting.

“As always, IEC try to be at the forefront of technical development and we have been looking at 3D production and distribution for a long time – an area in which we see a rapidly growing demand.”

The 3D broadcast is part of a three-year agreement between IEC in Sports and Panasonic
