Germany's federal Government has reaffirmed its backing for Munich's bid to stage the 2018 Winter Olympics and will provide financial support if the Bavarian capital lands the Games.
The Cabinet decided on Wednesday (November 3) that if Munich wins the bid, the federal Government will take a major role in the organising committee and will help finance projects such as the construction of venues and roads.
The Government is also ready to cover part of the deficit should the Games lose money.
Munich is competing against Annecy, France, and Pyeongchang, South Korea for the right to stage the event. The International Olympic Committee will select the host city on July 6, 2011.
