Specialist horse racing broadcaster Racing UK has signed a one-year sponsorship deal with leading jockey Ruby Walsh.
The Irishman, who has won two Grand Nationals and 27 races at the Cheltenham Festival, will wear Racing UK branding on his riding breeches and polo neck, as well as acting as the channel’s ambassador for the 2010/11 Jumping season.
Racing UK sponsored Walsh for an initial three-month period in February and he said: “I am delighted to be joining Racing UK on a more permanent basis for the next 12 months as I was always keen to sign with a horse racing partner.
“I have got to know Racing UK and its presenters well from over the years, given that the channel shows the majority of the major Jumps races, so it’s a natural fit for me.”
Racing UK’s commercial director Nick Mills added: “Ruby is one of the best-known and respected Jumps jockeys in the world. He has a phenomenal record at all the flagship race meetings, as we saw in March, when he rode his 27th Cheltenham Festival winner, eclipsing Pat Taaffe’s long-time record.
“As a result, there is no jockey better placed to give a sponsor exposure, and we look forward to seeing the Racing UK branding being carried to victory in many of the top races this year.
“We recognise jockeys as a vital part of promoting the sport and engaging novice and seasoned racegoers alike, and Racing UK viewers will see plenty of Ruby on the channel this season – not only on the track, but in exclusive interviews and features too."
