The Chilean Football Federation (ANPF) has elected Jorge Segovia, owner of local team Union Espanola, as its new president.
Segovia replaces Harold Mayne-Nicholls, who led the Fifa World Cup bid inspection team earlier this year. Segovia triumphed over Mayne-Nicholls by 28 votes to 22.
The news has led to the resignation of the country’s national team coach Marcelo Bielsa, who was appointed by Mayne-Nicholls.
“I can’t work with Segovia,” said Bielsa. “It’s simply impossible.”
