Virgin team boss John Booth has hit back at suggestions from F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone that only Lotus deserves to remain on the grid from this season's new teams.
Ecclestone said recently that F1 needs “to get rid of a few of those cripples”, referring to some of the new teams, and added that Virgin Group chief Sir Richard Branson should put more money into his team.
"I cannot understand his motives for saying that," Booth said. "Is it to embarrass Sir Richard Branson, one of the country's leading entrepreneurs?
"He's said so many things over the course of the year that it no longer has any effect on us."
