Tottenham Hotspur has appointed Charles Wijeratna, London 2012’s director of commercial negotiations, to the role of commercial director.
Wijeratna has been with London 2012 since 2003, initially as commercial and legal director. He managed all the commercial and legal aspects of the bid from set-up through the transition to LOCOG (the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games).
Wijeratna previously worked for Sky, and was also a lawyer with Clifford Chance and an investment banker with Kleinwort Benson.
He joins Tottenham as the club looks to boost its commercial revenues with a new stadium on the horizon.
Wijeratna replaces Paul Barber, who left Tottenham last year to become chief executive at Major League Soccer team the Vancouver Whitecaps.
His London 2012 responsibilities will be split between commercial director Chris Townsend and Nick Hockley, who has been promoted to head of commercial negotiations.
