London Olympics organisers have issued a tender to find the official beer, wine and champagne supplier to the Games.
Organising committee LOCOG is thought to have already held talks with Young's and Fuller's, the maker of London Pride which is also the official beer of the London Marathon.
As well as supplying the alcohol, largely to hospitality outlets, the successful bidder will be granted Olympic marketing rights.
Games chiefs want to celebrate British drinks manufacturers and the resurgence in the real ale market. Such a move would fit in with their ambition to use local produce at the Games where one in five meals will be provided by sponsor McDonald's. All soft drinks will come from Coca-Cola, a ‘worldwide partner’ of the Olympics.
LOCOG commercial director Chris Townsend has ruled out selling spirits and alcopops amid concerns it would encourage irresponsible drinking.
Other sponsorship deals in the pipeline include a security firm and a temporary power supplier.
