Organisers of the Italian Grand Prix have again expressed concern that plans to take Formula 1 to Rome will leave the historic Monza circuit without a race.
Both the Rome and Bernie Ecclestone insist the proposal for a street race in the Italian capital is no threat to Monza, but officials of the Autodromo Nazionale are not convinced.
"Amid a globalisation of grand prix, each country will inevitably be allowed to stage only one and, since Rome is the capital, I'm afraid we'd lose the grand prix forever," Monza boss Enrico Ferrari said.
But Ecclestone insisted that a deal with Rome would not necessarily be bad news for Monza. "We have two events at the moment in Spain," he added. "Let's wait and see. It's still early days."
