The French Rugby Federation (FFR) wants to have its own stadium by 2017 to guarantee the sport's independence, FFR president Pierre Camou has revealed.
Canou said at France's training camp on the outskirts of Paris this week that the FFR would not renew its agreement with the Stade de France when it expires in 2013.
"I think rugby and the rugby federation are a company and a company, if it wants to grow, needs to be independent," he added. "We want to build a stadium."
Former French league president Serge Blanco, who is in charge of the project, said the French Top 14 final had to be postponed last year from May to June because the Stade de France was hosting a concert by Johnny Hallyday, France's top rock singer.
"The French federation also loses half of the takings of the international games they are forced to play at the Stade de France," he continued.
The new stadium, for which the Paris outskirts cities of Massy, Senart, Bondoufle and Marne-la-Vallee have already applied, would cost about 600m euros.
