Plymouth Argyle has been issued with a winding-up petition by HM Revenue & Customs.
The League One club has been summoned to appear at the Royal Courts of Justice on December 8.
A related company, Home Park Properties, which was formed in January 2010, has also been issued with a winding-up petition by HMRC.
The club recorded a £2.8m loss for the 2008/09 financial year and was previously issued with a winding-up order for unpaid tax by HM Revenue & Customs last season.
Former Leeds and Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale was in Plymouth this week holding talks with the Argyle board.
In an official statement issued late on Thursday (November 25), the club said: "The board and principal shareholders are addressing the issue and, in addition, are in discussions with potential future investors."
