Guangzhou has no plans to bid for the Olympics despite the success of the Asian Games, which finished at the weekend.
International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge said during the event that Guangzhou has the “skill” to host the Olympics.
But Cai Jiadong, deputy secretary general of the Chinese Olympic Committee (COC), responded: "As far as I know, Guangzhou has no plans at the moment to bid for the Olympic Games.”
He added that it is up to the provincial Government and the people of Guangdong to decide whether to launch an Olympic bid.
"The COC make decisions based on the will and request of the Guangdong Government and Guangdong people,” he added.
