Rob Andrew has applied for the newly created job of operations director at the Rugby Football Union (RFU) after his elite rugby director post was scrapped.
Andrew was invited to compete for the new role and confirmed this week that he would put his name forward.
The position involves managing the RFU's relationship with elite clubs and players, and developing coaches.
Speculation had suggested Andrew may leave the RFU after the management structure was shuffled at Twickenham.
The former Newcastle boss has been at the RFU since 2006.
