West Ham United is set to be named as the preferred bidder to take over London’s Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games.
The east London club has been involved in an increasingly acrimonious battle with north London rival Tottenham for the right to move into the venue.
West Ham wants to keep the running track – one of the pledges made as part of London's legacy when it bid for the Olympics – while Spurs was planning to demolish the stadium and build a new one on the site.
It has been reported that Olympic Park Legacy Company (OPLC) executives have finally decided to recommend West Ham's bid and the OPLC board should confirm this on Friday (February 11).
The Government and London mayor Boris Johnson will make the final decision in the coming weeks, although it is not believed they will look to reverse the original selection.
