Glasgow’s bid committee for the 2014 Commonwealth Games announced Friday details of Scotland’s biggest Decision Day Announcement event. The one-off, all-ticket event is being held at the Old Fruitmarket, Candleriggs, Glasgow on November 9, when the Commonwealth Games Federations selects the host city for the 2014 Commonwealth Games – Glasgow or Abuja.

Entertainment includes Scotland’s latest teen-sensation singer-songwriter Amy Macdonald, and Deacon Blue, one of the biggest names on the Scottish music scene over the last 20 years will be on stage to begin the celebrations. Glasgow 2014 says The Treacherous Orchestra and the Strathclyde Police Pipe Band will provide traditional Scottish music with a “funky” twist.

Also on stage will be celebrities from sport and broadcast in Scotland sharing their experiences of what a Glasgow Games would mean for people across the country.

Deputy First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said, “I want as many people as possible to share in the excitement of Decision Day because I think it’s so important we all get behind Glasgow for the final push. I can really sense the level of excitement building across the country and it’s that enthusiasm that’s helped to get us this far. So let’s keep our fingers crossed – just imagine how amazing those Games in 2014 will be if we clear the final hurdle and bring the torch home to Glasgow”.

Glasgow 2014 has launched a new section on its website at www.glasgow2014.com/Support-Our-Bid /November 9 where people can apply for a pair of exclusive, limited issue tickets for the Decision Day event. Companies and sports associations can apply for a larger allocation of 10 tickets per organization. The ballot closes 5 p.m. on Thursday November 1.

About 1,000 schoolchildren will gather in a key Glasgow 2014 venue at Kelvinhall International Sports Arena to take part in a specially organized, one-off, giant gymstrada-performing gymnastic moves on the arena floor before watching the announcement live on large screens. They will be joined by some of the world’s top male and female gymnasts.
