Glasgow’s bid committee for the 2014 Commonwealth Games launched its final countdown campaign “We’ll Be Watching” Sunday encouraging people across the country to share in the excitement of the moment that Scotland discovers if it has won the right to stage the Commonwealth Games. Glasgow is the sole competitor against Abuja for the event.

The “We’ll Be Watching” message is being screened on television starting Sunday and on radio beginning Monday.

According to Glasgow 2014 the advertisement, featuring children from Glasgow’s East End, clearly communicates the mounting excitement that can be felt across the country. It will be aired until Friday November 9 when the host city for the 2014 Commonwealth Games is announced from Colombo Sri Lanka

Derek Casey, Glasgow 2014 Bid Director said, “I think it’s great the people of Glasgow and Scotland will have the chance to watch the decision on Friday live on television or on the Internet, or to hear it on radio. I certainly hope everyone will be watching what could be history in the making.

“Win or lose the bid has been an incredible process for Glasgow and Scotland. Everyone from primary school children to politicians and even the proclaimers have shown their support for bringing the Games to Scotland. We couldn’t have reached this point without that support.

“The finishing line is now in sight, but we are not complacent. In Sri Lanka we will continue to work as hard as we can right up to the last minute to prove to delegates beyond any doubt that Glasgow is the perfect venue for the Games in 2014”.

The announcement will be shown live to 1,000 people on large screens at the Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow and hundreds more are expected at two Glasgow 2014 venues, Tollcross Park and Scotstoun Leisure Centre.

Bars and restaurants will be displaying the “We’ll Be Watching” message throughout the week and on Friday many will join organizations and schools throughout the country hosting their own event.

Meanwhile Steven Purcell, leader of Glasgow City Council, and Lord Provost Bob Winter, flew to Sri Lanka as part of a delegation along with the Glasgow 2014 bid team. They are spending the next five days promoting Glasgow’s bid before the final decision Friday.
